EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — The driver of the speeding Mustang in the deadly I-10 East El Paso crash that killed a teen girl has been arrested.

According to jail records, 22-year-old Andrea Fernanda Soria was booked into the El Paso County downtown jail on Friday and charged with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle.

On March 20, the El Paso Police Department identified Soria as the driver of the 2022 Ford Mustang that, on the night of March 17, investigators said was speeding when it rear-ended a 2017 Ford Escape, causing the crash that killed 15-year-old Sophia Ramirez.

Jail records show Soria’s bond was set at $150,000 and that she posted a surety bond. Records show Soria is now out on bond.

EPPD has since released Soria’s mugshot.

According to EPPD, on March 17, officers responded to a two-vehicle crash and requested assistance from the Special Traffic Investigations unit.

Police said a preliminary investigation reveals that the 2017 Ford Escape was traveling east on I-10 when a 2022 Ford Mustang, also traveling east, rear-ended the Escape at a high rate of speed.

Police said Ramirez was ejected from the vehicle and suffered life-threatening injuries.

On March 19, traffic investigators were notified by the Medical Examiner’s Office that Ramirez died as a result of the crash, leading to the arrest of Soria.

Family members previously told KFOX14/CBS4 they were driving home from the airport the night of the crash. They said Sophia Ramirez suffered a severe brain bleed, a broken arm and trauma to her heart, and went into cardiac arrest multiple times before she died.

In a phone interview Friday, Ramirez’s stepfather, Joshua Rubio, said the family believes the arrest took too long.

“We definitely felt like the arrest was long overdue,” Rubio said. “We were skeptical as to what was going to happen if she was even going to be picked up, because it just seemed to take a while.”

El Paso police said the time between the crash and Soria’s arrest was part of the investigative process.
