An investigation is ongoing after a shocking incident stunned San Antonio trailgoers on Friday morning, April 10.

The San Antonio Police Department confirmed to MySA that officers were dispatched to the 7500 block of Prue Road at 8:52 a.m. on Friday, not far from the Leon Creek Greenway. There it was revealed that the body of a 27-year-old woman was discovered on fire.

Described as an “apparent sudden death” incident, SAPD officials said hikers on the trail noticed something was on fire as they made their way through a wooded path. They called SAPD once they realized the fire was a person’s body, and members of the San Antonio Fire Department were able to extinguish the flames shortly after.

The woman, who right now is only described as a 27-year-old white female, was pronounced dead at the scene.

SAPD told reporters with KSAT 12 that there was “some evidence of an accelerant on the woman’s body,” suggesting she was set on fire. However, if the fire was self-inflicted or due to foul play is unclear at this time.

The investigation into her death remains ongoing, but SAPD told MySA that there are “no criminal elements” at the time of this report.
