The No. 2 Oklahoma Sooners opened their series with the No. 4 Texas Longhorns with a 3-0 win on Friday night. Audrey Lowry was great, throwing a complete game shutout while battling two rain delays.
The Sooners’ bats were kept relatively quiet by Tegan Kavan, who recorded 13 strikeouts in her own complete game performance. But she threw 54 more pitches than Lowry did on the evening. Oklahoma was ultimately able to come away with the win on big swings of the bat from Ella Parker and Isabela Emerling, who provided the offense in the win.
It’ll be interesting to see what Texas does in the circle after Kavan threw 145 pitches Friday night. Hannah Wells was the game two starter each of the last two weekends for the Longhorns. Oklahoma’s likely to go with Miali Guachino in the circle for game two on Saturday.
The Sooners are now three games up in the standings over Texas and stayed two games up over Alabama after the Crimson Tide beat Auburn 1-0.
The Sooners and the Longhorns will be back in action for game two of their top-five series on Saturday night in a primetime showdown, and here’s how you can tune into the action.
