This phase of the project will take place along the 1200 block of Gruene Road and builds directly on Phase 1, completed in March 2026, which marked the first major step in the overhaul.
Work during this final stage will largely take place overnight, from 9Â p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday, in an effort to reduce disruptions for residents, businesses and the steady flow of visitors to the area. During active work, traffic will be reduced to a single lane, with flaggers directing drivers through the corridor. Some daytime lane interruptions are also expected as crews construct two concrete vaults near the bridge.
The broader project has focused on replacing aging infrastructure and increasing system capacity to meet continued growth in the area. Phase 2 improvements include upgrading an existing 12-inch sewer main to a larger 18-inch line, installing a new odor control unit along Gruene Road and replacing older siphon lines that run beneath the Guadalupe River.
While construction has brought months of lane closures, detours and limited parking to the district, the upgrades are designed to improve long-term reliability and performance of the wastewater system.
The project was first identified in NBU’s 2021 Wastewater Master Plan and is part of ongoing efforts to support infrastructure demands in one of the Hill Country’s most popular destinations.
