The Human Highlight Reel’s son is coming to Cal — while the offspring of another Hall of Famer is leaving Berkeley.
Jake Wilkins, a high-jumping forward from the University of Georgia and son of Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins, committed to join the Bears next season. The younger Wilkins recently entered the transfer portal after one season at Georgia.
His agent, Darrell Comer Jr., confirmed Jake Wilkins’ commitment to Cal in a text message to the Chronicle on Saturday.
News of Wilkins’ decision came one day after Justin Pippen, son of six-time NBA champion Scottie Pippen, committed to Ohio State, according to reports. Justin Pippen started as a sophomore at point guard for Cal this past season, averaging 14.2 points and 4.6 assists while leading the Bears to a 22-12 record.
Cal also is losing the other member of last season’s backcourt — leading scorer Dai Dai Ames (16.9 points per game) is transferring to Tennessee, according to reports Saturday. Ames, who will be a senior, played at Kansas State and Virginia before coming to Cal.
As for Wilkins, he appeared in 32 games this past season for Georgia (where his dad also played in college). He averaged 4.9 points and 1.9 rebounds in 10.2 minutes per game.
Jake Wilkins, who stands 6-foot-9, was a consensus four-star recruit last year at Grayson High School in suburban Atlanta. He was ranked as the No. 54 recruit in the nation by ESPN.com.
Even if Wilkins didn’t play much as a freshman, he commanded plenty of attention for his dynamic dunks. He twice appeared on “SportsCenter” Top Plays, including one windmill alley-oop dunk against Morehead State — coincidentally off a pass from former Cal guard Jeremiah Wilkinson.
Wilkins becomes the latest son of a former NBA player to join the Bears. In addition to Justin Pippen, the roster last season included Stephon Marbury II, son of two-time NBA All-Star Stephon Marbury.
