EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso Animal Services is recognizing the dedication of its frontline staff as part of Animal Protection Officer and Telecommunicator Appreciation Week.
When incidents arise, dispatchers and officers play critical roles in serving the community, according to the department.
Telecommunicators, often the first point of contact for residents in need, were praised for their ability to respond quickly and manage high-pressure situations to ensure help is dispatched.
Officials are also highlighting the evolving role of Animal Protection Officers, noting their responsibilities extend far beyond traditional perceptions. In addition to handling stray animals, officers contribute to public safety, provide community education, and help reunite lost pets with their families.
El Paso Animal Services told KTSM that despite the roles being emotionally demanding, requiring patience, compassion, and sound decision-making in unpredictable circumstances, staff members continue to serve the community daily.
Animal Protection leaders are encouraging residents to show appreciation for officers and dispatchers throughout the week, recognizing their essential contributions to both animal welfare and public safety.
