GRAYSON COUNTY, Texas (KXII) – A new reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest in the 1997 case of a north Texas college student who was found murdered in Grayson County.
The Department of Public Safety is offering a $6,000 reward for information that will lead to an arrest in the murder of Brent Gutheinz, 22.
Gutheinz, of Richardson, was a senior at The University of Texas – Dallas when on June 22, 1997, his body was found burned and mutilated along Squirrel Creek between Van Alstyne and Sherman. Gutheinz had last been seen running errands and going to the gym three days earlier.
His family said he had been dealing with significant stress because of recent debt he took on by buying items including new vehicles and electronics.
Now, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers are exploring more forensic testing in the case. Investigators believe that people who know about Gutheinz’s major purchases, or any ties he might have had to Grayson County, could help authorities find whoever killed him.
