Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian has publicly made it known that the recent reports of his supposed interest in the Tennessee Titans head coaching vacancy are “wildly inaccurate”. On Tuesday, he received even more reason to be cautious about making the jump to the NFL in Tennessee from longtime Titans star offensive lineman Taylor Lewan.

Lewan famously made three Pro Bowl appearances over the course of his nine-year NFL career, all spent in Tennessee. During his time with the organization, the team made the postseason three consecutive years from 2019 to 2021, even reaching the AFC Championship Game in 2019.

Unfortunately, the Titans have fallen on hard times since Lewan’s retirement from the NFL. The Titans have accumulated a 10-32 record, which includes the team’s 1-7 start to the 2025 season.

It will clearly take quite a lot to turn the Titans organization around for whoever the next head coach of the Titans is, following Brian Callahan’s firing earlier this season. With this in mind, Lewan shared a cautious message to Sarkisian and any other coaching candidates who may have any intrigue about the Tennessee head coaching job.

“He’s a friend of the show,” said Lewan of Sarkisian, referring to his “Bussin With The Boys” show. “If I am Sark, and I look at all of the things going for me in Austin, Texas. He’s got Texas money, he’s got oil money. He has the infrastructure around him to be successful. He’s got his pick of the litter when it comes to any player that comes out of there. Texas is a major place for recruits.

“If I am Sark, and I would like to coach in the NFL, and the Titans would be the option… Unbiasedly looking at the franchise right now, it is not competitive. There are too many holes. You aren’t going to be able to fix it in one year. That’s not a shot. If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, unfortunately, in this case, it is a duck. If I am Sark, I would want to stay in Texas too.”

It’s certainly means quite a lot to hear a proud former Titans player speaking out about just how bad the current state of the organization is. Though notably, Lewan is not the only former Titans star recently to take aim at the franchise and those in leadership positions at the top.

Notably, last week, former Titans star running back Eddie George similarly put the team on blast, claiming that their owner, Amy Adams Strunk, has set the organization back “at least a decade” with how things have been handled as of late.

Only time will tell whether Sarkisian truly has an interest in the Titans’ job and is simply trying to hide his intentions since Texas still finds itself in postseason contention this season, or whether the recent reports tying him to Tennessee are truly false from the beginning.

Either way, based on these comments from Lewan, Sarkisian may want to reconsider his position, whatever it happens to be.
