LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – 32-year-old Anthony Washington pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter in connection with a deadly 2024 crash.
Washington was sentenced to 40 years on each count in the 137th District Court by Judge Trey McClendon on Tuesday afternoon. His sentence will run concurrently.
On March 27, 2024, emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle crash near Spur 327 and Milwaukee Avenue.
Driver, 20-year-old Blake Garza, and passenger, 18-year-old Naomi Harry, were traveling east in the 6500 block of Spur 327 when they collided with Washington, who was driving an SUV heading south on Milwaukee.
Harry died at the scene of the crash. Garza was taken to UMC where he later died.
“Blake was only 20 years old when his life was taken by a drunk driver,” his mother said in a victim impact statement to the court. “20 years old — with his whole life ahead of him. He should still be here. He should be building his future, chasing his dreams and living the life he deserved.”
