Trader Joe’s north Houston project calls for a 12,506-square-foot shell building with estimated costs around $2 million.re-foot shell building. According to the permit, the work is expected to begin in June and be completed by the end of January 2027.

The Spring Trader Joe’s isn’t the only location planned for the whole of Texas. According to USA Today, the grocer chain is in the midst of a major nationwide expansion with 18 new stores set to open in 12 states within the next three to six months. That includes a second store in McKinney, outside of Dallas, at 8101 Eldorado Pkwy.

There’s also a new Trader Joe’s planned for Houston’s Bellaire neighborhood. As Chron previously reported, the grocery store will install itself at the Bellaire Boulevard Shopping Center at 5130 Bellaire Blvd. The space previously housed a Randalls store that closed in 2021. A Trader Joe’s representative did not reveal when the new store would be opening.

As Grocery Dive previously reported, Trader Joe’s has experienced significant growth over the past two years. The chain added 34 locations in 2024, 43 locations in 2025, and has indicated it will open more than 20 locations this year. Much of the expansion has centered around regions they already inhabit. Once the Bellaire, McKinney and Spring stores are open, Texas will be home to a total of 28 Trader Joe’s stores.
