Another bar is shuttering in San Antonio’s Southtown neighborhood in the coming weeks, but customers still have time to say goodbye to the local haunt known for its punk vibes and cold beer.
Lowcountry confirmed in an Instagram post that it will be closing its doors in a little over a month after serving Southtown for the last nine years. Co-owner Drew Morros penned the post, which reflected on the bar’s extensive run.
“Big news, y’all. Lowcountry, my very favorite bar in the whole wide world, is closing down at the end of May,” Morros wrote. “It’s been a great run and I have been so lucky to have had great folks on both sides of the bar for the past 9 years.”
Morros also confirmed the reason for the closure, telling MySA via email that their landlord is selling the building. Though she doesn’t know the exact situation, she said she’s trying not to take it “too personally.”
“I really love Lowcountry and I think that I’ve been lucky to spend most of the last decade here. We have consistently had great people on staff and really loyal customers. Some of the best times of my life have been spent in that little bar, but I am looking forward to whatever comes next for everyone involved,” Morros said.
The social media post included several photos of patrons and folks who kept the bar running for nearly a decade. Before signing off, Morros briefly touched on the possible reason behind the closure.
“Landlords gonna landlord,” the post said. MySA reached out to Morros for additional comment via email, and we will update this story if and when we receive a response. For now, people can continue to visit Lowcountry through the end of May.
