SAN ANTONIO – A woman has been sentenced to eight years in prison for defrauding elderly victims, including her own grandmother, in a pair of identity theft cases involving fraudulent car purchases.
On Tuesday, Judge Benjamin Robertson of the 226th District Court sentenced Cassandra Alonzo to eight years in prison after finding her guilty of multiple offenses, including fraud and exploitation of the elderly.
According to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office, Alonzo used her 87-year-old estranged grandmother’s identification to purchase a vehicle from Volkswagen of Alamo Heights on February 7, 2025. Alonzo submitted a credit application online and later completed the sale in person using a fake temporary ID displaying her grandmother’s personal information.
Dealership staff quickly detected the fraud and repossessed the vehicle. Investigators later found Alonzo’s real identification inside the car, and her identity was confirmed by a friend.
At the time of the 2025 offense, Alonzo was already under indictment for a similar 2024 incident at Gunn Honda, where she allegedly used the identity of an 82-year-old victim to purchase another vehicle.
Judge Robertson denied Alonzo’s request for probation, ordering that she serve eight years in prison for both cases.
