A controversial adult venue offering memberships as high as $9,000 in a small East Texas town has been shut down.
LSX Venue, located at 6180 U.S. Hwy 259 near Henderson, was forced to close Wednesday after violating a county ordinance preventing sexually oriented businesses from operating within 1,000 feet of a residence, as first reported by KETK. The business also reportedly failed to apply for required permits.
LSX—short for “Little Somethin Xtra”—offered memberships ranging from $10 to $9,000, according to their website. The businesses advertised themselves as an “adult lifestyle venue in East Texas where like-minded adults over 21 gather to share experiences together.”
“Inside the main building are multiple interior ‘play areas’ along with futons, pool tables, and indoor hot tubs,” the letter reads. “According to individuals who have visited the facility, some of these interior ‘play areas’ have glass windows intended for viewing.”
The letter also details a wide range of amenities, including a home on the property with four rooms available for rent at $100 a night, two outdoor pools, a hot tub, a 6,000-square-foot covered patio, recreational areas like cornhole, and 34 available acres for tent camping or RV parking.
“Many believe this establishment is operating in a manner inconsistent with our community standards and may contribute to activity that could negatively affect public safety and quality of life,” the letter reads.
County Sheriff Johnwayne Valdez told KETK the business understands sexually-oriented businesses are not going to be allowed in the county within the confines of the decades-old ordinance and are no longer operating at the Hwy 259 club.
However, the future of the venue remains uncertain, and it appears it may continue operations under a different name.
“They have rebranded themselves as an event center and are gonna do some music festivals or some other events,” Valdez told KETK.
