A DPS spokesperson said in a statement to MySA that troopers are currently investigating the deadly crash, which officials say involved a pedestrian on the main portion of the southbound I-35 lanes just before Grand Avenue Parkway. DPS said all southbound lanes of IH-35 near the crash have since been reopened, but were closed for several hours Thursday morning.
The Travis County Sheriff’s Office previously said it was also on scene investigating the crash. It’s unclear what caused the crash or how many people were involved. DPS said no further information is available at this time.
SigAlert first flagged the incident as a major crash that resulted in stopped traffic, with anticipated delays upwards of an hour. The crash was reported on the platform around 5:19 a.m. Thursday between Grand Avenue Parkway and FM 1825, another popular roadway in Pflugerville.
At the time, SigAlert warned drivers that traffic had backed up to RM 1431, Chandler Road and Exit 256 on I-35.
MySA is following this story and will provide updates on the traffic page as they become available.
