HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A chase suspect has been detained after prompting an hourslong standoff on Thursday in southwest Houston, according to police.

The Houston Police Department says the scene began at the intersection of Clarewood and Hilcroft Avenue before 8:30 a.m.

Officials said officers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver did not comply with commands, drove away, and led officers on a chase, HPD said.

HPD said that at one point, the driver got out and ran, leading officers on a lengthy foot chase before running into a vacant house in the 6400 block of Leader Street in the Alief area.

At about 1:10 p.m., HPD reported the suspect had been taken into custody and that he was the only person in the home during the standoff.
