A 1,000-acre park—larger than New York City’s Central Park—is set to officially break ground this month in North Texas.

For comparison, Central Park spans about 843 acres, meaning Frisco is taking the “everything’s bigger in Texas” motto very literally.

Construction will begin at Grand Park—a sprawling 1,011-acre site from the Dallas North Tollway west to Lake Lewisville and FM 243 in Frisco—on April 27, according to a recent Facebook post from the Frisco Parks & Recreation Department. Phase one of the project comprises more than 68 acres, known as Civic Park.

Civic Park will feature an amphitheater and associated lawn, shade pavilion, splash pad, event orchard, arrival garden, wetland and associated boardwalk, three-acre pond and kayak launch, bike racks, flex lawn, food trucks, grand promenade, festival street, play sculpture, restrooms, monument gateway, picnic area, trails and more.

“This isn’t just another park; it’s a world-class urban oasis designed to welcome all Frisco residents and visitors to an intentionally designed community space that invites all ages and abilities to play, explore, discover, and connect,” Frisco Parks & Rec wrote to Facebook as part of the groundbreaking announcement.

The master plan for Grand Park notes 39 acres of adventure play space, a 78-acre botanic garden and nature area, a 46-acre sports park and a 37-acre nature center set for future development. Once complete, Grand Park will be home to 20.7 miles of trails, 1,051 parking spaces, 16 acres of pond, 100 acres of programmed area and 189 acres of natural area.

“It is a destination for fitness, wellness, respite, and activity that celebrates the diversity of Frisco’s culture and activates the curiosity and creativity of all who visit,” the city wrote in a 2024 Grand Park vision statement.”
