HOUSTON, Texas — The Navy Band Southeast is in town for the inaugural Fleet Week Houston.
“I love that I get to make people feel patriotic every time I go out to perform,” Musician 3rd Class Bernadette Rocks told ABC13.
The band, which is stationed in Jacksonville, Florida, consists of professional musicians, some of whom hold master’s degrees in music. The band can play a range of genres, from rock and pop to jazz, soul, and country.
“They just add to the pomp and circumstance of events. We have them at change of commands, we have them during fleet weeks. They are in high, high demand, and they are really inspirational,” Rear Admiral John Hewitt said.
Musician 2nd Class Jorge Cabrera adds, “It’s a great pride to play music for our country, and we get to focus on music, and be the face of the navy. It’s a big privilege.”
Members of the Navy Band Southeast visited the ABC13 Studio at the beginning of Fleet Week. You can listen to a portion of their performance in the video above.
