ARLINGTON, Texas — Two teenagers have been arrested in connection to a March crash that resulted in the death of 53-year-old Tanya Cypert, according to the Arlington Police Department.
Following a thorough investigation, Arlington police obtained warrants for the arrests of 18-year-old Adam Hamad and a juvenile male on one count of racing on a highway causing death. On April 15, 2026, members of the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force located both teens in Arlington and took them into custody without incident.
Hamad was booked into the Arlington City Jail, while the juvenile male was booked into the Tarrant County Juvenile Detention Center. Due to the age of the juvenile driver, his name has not been released.
The crash occurred on March 6, 2026, near the intersection of S. Cooper Street and Eden Road. Investigators determined Cypert, who was driving a 2022 Hyundai Tucson, attempted a left turn from S. Cooper Street onto Eden Road when she was struck by a 2025 Mercedes Benz C300 traveling northbound at a high rate of speed. Cypert was transported to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead from her injuries.
Witnesses reported that the Mercedes and other vehicles appeared to be racing prior to the crash, speeding, weaving in and out of traffic without signaling, and revving their engines. Surveillance video from a nearby business supported these claims, according to the Arlington Police Department.
Data from the Mercedes’ airbag control module indicated Hamad was driving in excess of 100 mph at the time of the crash, where the speed limit is 45 mph. The juvenile male was driving a 2012 Lexus IS that was not involved in the crash but is believed to have been racing the Mercedes, traveling over 85 mph.
Investigators are examining whether a third vehicle was also racing prior to the crash. The investigation remains ongoing, according to the Arlington Police Department.
