Nothing beats the nostalgia of biting into a Whataburger for the first time. It’s probably why we’re so critical of any “changes” at Whataburger post its Chicago purchase. However, a European visitor made a trip to the Lone Star State and even tried his first Whataburger. The results? He loved it.

Reddit user Few-Opportunity-1006 posted to the Whataburger subreddit, sharing photos of his trip to the Corpus Christi Whataburger on South Staples, writing, “First time Whataburger as a German. It was delicious! 9.5/10.” He added in the caption that he “Really liked the Beef and the combination with the salad, pickles and mustard.” The post has received over 400 upvotes as of Thursday, April 16, and dozens of comments chiming in about all things Whataburger.

“The best fast food hamburger hands down,” JLR32109 responded. To which the German added, “One of the best for sure. You can taste the quality. Nothing like a McD, BK or Wendys.”

The Whataburger at 4126 South Staples St., Corpus Christi, TX 78411 is not the original Whataburger but it does have a replica in the back of what the original Whataburger looked like when it opened in 1950. We can only hope Few-Opportunity-1006 swung by for a photo during his visit.

As for his meal, the Redditor ordered a classic double meat Whataburger, but many of the captions questioned his decision not to add cheese and offered suggestions for what to order in the future.

“No cheese? That’s the best on a Whataburger burger!!” hikerdaze responded. “A Whataburger with no cheese is good, but a Whataburger with cheese is SOOO GOOD!!! If tomorrow is your last day to try it, get both the Patty Melt and and a single meat with cheese whataburger. Try both! :).”

“Next time get a patty melt!! It’s absolutely delicious,” spacecowboy5120 replied. Babyhawtsauce added on, “dip it in gravy with black pepper or spicy ketchup, and if you don’t like toast get buns but ask for them toasted on both sides.”

Chance_Lobster_9989 added, “Burgers are great, but are getting expensive.” To which Few-Opportunity-1006 replied, “Yes. Most expensive is Five Guys. They’re going bankrupt in Germany because a Burger (without drink or fries) costs 12-14€. No one spends that. Burger King Meal is around 8-12€ and a Döner + Drink is 8-10€.”

He continued, “What really shocked me pricewise were the Beverage, Wine & Beer prices in the Supermarket here and that the only drinkable Beer in Heineken. Beer is like 3x-4x the price compared to Europe.”

The Redditor explained in ensuing replies that he’d been visiting all around Texas, going to Fredericksburg and Luckenbach in addition to Austin and San Antonio.

“Glad you enjoyed it! Hope you have a wonderful time in TX,” Top-Pomegranate4899 replied. Few-Opportunity-1006 responded, “I definitely had a great time. Will visit again. Beach was beautiful, only the Portuguese Man O War scared me a bit.”
