Teammates and fans mourned the death of former Texas A&M football standout Trent Hunter this week.
Hunter, a native of Katy, played defensive back for A&M from 2008-11. He had 302 tackles, 19 passes defended and seven interceptions over a career that included All-Big 12 honors. There was no cause of death given in reports by KBTX-TV and others.
Some former players and fans shared their condolences for Hunter.
The Katy football X account on Wednesday posted a high school highlight video of Trent with the message: “Sadly, we received word that former Tiger @trenthunter01 has passed. Thoughts and prayers to the Hunter family. R.I.P Trent.”
One fan wrote about how they enjoyed watching him play. Another reminisced on his days at Katy and his engagement with local fans. “Trent was a heck of a football player and leader and such a good Aggie. Heartbreaking. Pray for his family…” posted an account belonging to TexAgs podcast host Gabe Bock.
On Facebook, former Dallas Cowboys defensive end and A&M alumnus Gavin Stansbury posted a picture of Hunter in his Aggies uniform with the caption: “Dang Big Bro, … #TrentHunter #1 #TheLifeOfTheParty”
