“Detectives from Los Angeles Police Department, Robbery-Homicide Division have arrested David Burke, a 21-year-old resident of Los Angeles, for the murder of Celeste Rivas,” read a post Thursday on X by the LAPD Media Relations Division. “Burke is being held without bail.”
The LAPD added that the case will be presented to the District Attorney’s office for filing consideration on Monday.
Body found Sept. 8
The LAPD responded on Sept. 8 to calls of a foul odor emanating from an impounded Tesla at Hollywood Tow in Los Angeles. Police found a decomposing and dismembered body inside the trunk of the Tesla, and determined that the person had been dead for “an extended period of time.” After tracing the car back to D4vd, police began an investigation, which was reported to include the singer’s full cooperation, though differing reports followed.
The body was of Rivas Hernandez, who had died before her 15th birthday and was last seen by family in April 2024, according to Variety. TMZ reported D4vd had a tattoo identical to one found on Rivas Hernandez, and that Rivas Hernandez’s mother reportedly said her daughter had spoken about a boyfriend named David.
D4vd was born in New York but moved to Houston at a young age. He was discovered making music for compilation videos of him playing the online game Fortnite. He became popular over TikTok and has performed at the Austin City Limits Music Festival.Â
Upon the discovery of Rivas Hernandez’s body and the ensuing investigation in September 2025, D4vd canceled tour dates, and brand deals were pulled back. He was viewed as a suspect in Rivas Hernandez’s death starting in November.
