LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – With fast-changing weather moving into the region, fire officials are urging residents to stay cautious as fire danger increases.
The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Wednesday, covering all of South Texas, including Webb County. The Laredo Fire Department reports noticeable shifts in its fire behavior rating system, which indicates a sign of rising risk. Officials say that lower humidity and an approaching cold front could cause fires to spread more quickly.
“For the weather change, it’s gonna be very cool outside, something we’re not used to, so we tend to gravitate to doing outdoor activities, which is great for the community to enjoy this beautiful weather, but also just be aware of that drop in humidity that can cause the fire to expand a little bit faster,” said Hernan Martinez with the Laredo Fire Department. “Be careful when you cook out. Don’t be throwing cigarettes into the grass, anything like that.”
The Red Flag Warning will remain in effect from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
