Houston-raised singer D4vd was arrested Thursday on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of a teen girl, whose body was found last year decomposing in his abandoned Tesla, according to Los Angeles police.
The 21-year-old singer, whose given name is David Anthony Burke, was being held in jail without bail. The case was expected to be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office on Monday for filing consideration, police said.
The remains of the girl were found in September in Burke’s impounded Tesla and later identified as 15-year-old Celeste Rivas by the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office. The teen had been reported missing earlier in the year, according to ABC7, which reported that she had run away from her Lake Elsinore home in April 2024.
Born in Queens, New York, the singer rose to fame in 2022 after his work became popular on TikTok, specifically his song “Romantic Homicide,” which garnered more than 1 billion streams on Spotify.
He kicked off the worldwide tour of his “Withered” album in Houston last year, but in September, Burke cancelled all remaining shows, including scheduled stops across Europe, amid the investigation into Celeste’s death.
