STEPHENVILLE, Texas & AZUSA, Calif. The UT Arlington track & field team opened the weekend with two new school records at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California, and five first place finishes on the first day of the Joe Gillespie Invitational in Stephenville, Texas.
 
Bryan Clay Invitational: Thursday, April 16 – Friday, April 17 (Azusa, California)
In California, junior Matro Jepkemboi set the new program record in the women’s outdoor 10K with a personal best time of 34:10.78 on Thursday morning. Senior Alex Kalmar set the new UTA program record in the men’s outdoor 800m with a time of 1:46.86, ranking top 10 in the West Region and #15 in the nation.
 
Joe Gillespie Invitational: Friday, April 17 (Stephenville, Texas)
Meanwhile back in Texas, the Mavericks recorded five first-place finishes on opening day of the Joe Gillespie Invitational, hosted by Tarleton State. Justina Lusby won the women’s 3K steeplechase with a personal best time of 11:25.41 and Kellen Frickel won the men’s 3K steeplechase in 9:27.53. Angel Sanchez won the men’s 5000m, recording a new personal best of 14:48.14. Emilia Mandl earned first in the women’s 1500m in 4:31.49 and Abigail Perez won gold in the women’s 5000m, clocking 18:11.66.
