Family-friendly dinner spot, Peter Piper Pizza, is going viral on social media after a customer claims it has changed one of its core menu items. Many users expressed frustration with the alleged proclamation, saying that it was the wrong move.
Peter Piper Pizza has nine locations in San Antonio and more than 60 others across the U.S., per the data company ScrapeHero. In a post published on Friday, April 10, TikTok creator @Asheln_XO shared a clip taken inside a restaurant and alleged that a topping had been switched. The state in which the specialty eatery they ate at was based was not included in the post.
In the video, a man is shown in what appears to be a heated conversation with another person near a cash register and on the phone. The caption of the post suggests that the reaction was due to the chain changing its regular pepperoni to turkey pepperoni. The clip gathered more than 264,000 views and hundreds of comments, with several sharing denunciation of the alleged switch-up.
“No because I will be emailing them too it’s that serious,” one user, Emily Elizabeth, commented.
Another, Kimberly Flores, wrote, “I haven’t been in years but I’m so upset.”
However, a company spokesperson tells MySA that Peter Piper Pizza “has not made any changes to its traditional pepperoni recipe.”
They continued, “Our classic pepperoni pizza remains the same and continues to be a guest favorite across all locations. We’re proud to serve the same great-tasting pizza our guests know and love, and we appreciate the opportunity to clarify any confusion.”
The user, @Asheln_XO, said in a follow-up comment on their own post that the change applied to the lunch buffet pizza.
“We were told they switched to turkey pepperonis because it’s cheaper,” they wrote in a comment.
Peter Piper Pizza says its original quote applies to both lunch and dinner servings. MySA reached out to the TikTok creator who made the claims for more information, but did not immediately hear back.
