Spooky Season is peaking in El Paso and if you’re looking for some scary Netflix and chill, try these 5 horror “flix” set in right here in the lone star state.
Texas is loaded with famously haunted sites, haunted roads, haunted train bridges and mysterious, unexplainable lights. We even have ghostly monkeys, I tell ‘ya, Texas rocks.
We have loads of ghost stories and legends and some tales … true or imagined … have been made into movies. Most of my top 5 aren’t based on actual events but they’re all pretty good and they were all “made in Texas”.
I love a good ghost story and some of Texas’ best tales have yet to catch Hollywood’s eye but a few have. Some based on things that actually happened, (or, supposedly happened), here and others just set here.
Texas is a great spot to make a movie in, that’s for sure. If you haven’t seen these, check ’em out. To help narrow down the list, I chose flicks from the 70’s … a great era for (somewhat) cheesy horror movies … or made to have a 70’s kind of feel

Honorable mention for Rob Zombie’s House of 1,000 Corpses. Set in the fictional town of Ruggsville, Texas, it’s also given a “retro”, 70’s kind of feel as is it’s follow up, The Devils Rejects. Both were set in Texas but neither actually filmed here. I really like these 2 though so, they get a participation trophy.
Nada for 3 From Hell though. The final installment in Zombie’s “Firefly” trilogy was neither filmed in nor set in Texas. And it sucked.

That’s nowhere near all of them. How good they are is, of course, in the eye of the beholder. Even the horrible ones have some merit though so, enjoy the 70’s throwback vibe and have a horribly great Halloween.
