AUSTIN, TX — A serious injury collision shut down some of northbound I-35 in downtown Austin early Sunday morning, according to police.
The crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. between Riverside Drive and Cesar Chavez Street. Officers initially reduced the roadway to one lane; as of 6:50 a.m., two lanes are open, with the right lane still closed.

APD says that the crash was a single-vehicle collision, and that the passenger was ejected from the vehicle. That person was taken to a trauma facility; the status of that patient is currently unknown. Police say they are unsure if intoxication was a factor in the crash.
Austin police are investigating the crash; they said that they are waiting on hearing on the victim’s status from the hospital.
According to the Texas Department of Transportation, the left lane remains open. Drivers are being asked to seek alternate routes.
