Via 313 may have grown a ravenous fandom in Texas, exposing the Lone Star State to the wonders of Detroit-style pizza. However, the lords of the square slice may have expanded across the state, but they might not even be the best in Texas.
Motor City Pizza, a North Texas outpost that prides itself on its Detroit-style slices, first opened in Lewisville, Texas, in 2021 from owner Greg Tierney. Now, barely five years later, Motor City Pizza has been ranked the No. 1 pizza joint in Texas for the second straight year, courtesy of 5 Reasons to Visit.

This is just the latest accolade for the pizza joint, which has previously earned praise from the Dallas Observer and D Magazine and was named Best Pizza in Dallas by the Dallas Morning News.
Some pizza offerings include the Detroiter, the Hoffa, the Motown Supreme and the Detroit Lions pizza, which the menu jokingly refers to as “one of the worst.” As for why people should visit Motor City Pizza, Tierney said this:
“Pretty simple, we serve the best Detroit-style pizza on planet Earth (and possibly the universe),” he told 5 Reasons to Visit. “Also, our staff are genuinely really good people, who care about their job and take care exceptional care of our customers.”
Lewisville is about a five-hour drive north from San Antonio, but Alamo City locals will have to make the trip to taste what is, apparently, the best pizza in Texas. Don’t make the mistake of visiting H-E-B to try a frozen pizza.

The beloved grocer does sell frozen pies from Authentic Motor City Pizza Co., which, on first glance, could be mistaken for the North Texas outpost, but its website shows it’s based in New Boston, Michigan.
So, yes, to try Texas’ No. 1 pizza joint, you’ll have to put in a little legwork.
