NAVASOTA, Texas (KBTX) – On Sunday, the City of Navasota hosted its 14th annual Texas Birthday Bash, drawing more than 1,000 people to August Horst Memorial Park.
Attendees gathered to enjoy country music artists including Neal McCoy, Payton Howie, Stoney Larue, Jon Wolfe, and Gannon Fremin & CCREV. In addition to the music, there were local vendors, food trucks, and a petting zoo for the kids.
Birthday bash promoter Charlie Diggs said it is an opportunity for families to spend time with one another.
“We love our state, but seeing everybody out smiling, kids having fun — they’re not on their phones,” Diggs remarked. “They’re having a good time with family, walking around, petting the animals, going and buying vendors, supporting local and all the small businesses.”
Savory Fine Foods Director of Market and Product Development David Ferguson said his team has supported the birthday bash since it began by making baskets for all the artists.
“Just as a thank you to all the bands who come out here, I always put together a gift basket with all of our products — a few additional things because it’s all about supporting the local community and showing appreciation to those who actually come here to do these type of events,” Ferguson explained.
While the birthday bash is fun, it also helps draw tourists to Navasota and its businesses.
“It’s all about showing the general public that Navasota is a great place and there’s so much to do here, and it’s not crazy harried the way it is in a lot of metro areas. You can take your time and enjoy every event that they have here and the community at large,” Ferguson commented.
Diggs said this is the first time the birthday bash was held on a Sunday, and planning is underway for next year.
