SAN ANTONIO – 24-year-old Atharva Vyas was arrested Saturday afternoon after allegedly assaulting a woman and a toddler at Espada Park on the South Side near Brooks City Base, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
Vyas faces charges of aggravated assault and assault causing bodily injury following the incident, which occurred around 2:50 p.m.
Police said a 27-year-old woman was walking with a 3-year-old girl when Vyas approached and pulled the woman’s hair. The force of the pull caused the woman to fall and drop the child. Vyas then began physically assaulting the 3-year-old, resulting in serious bodily injury, investigators said.

A bystander who did not know any of the involved parties intervened and restrained Vyas until officers arrived.
Both victims were evaluated for their injuries at the scene. While the motive for the attack remains unknown, officials noted the investigation is ongoing and the details are subject to change.
