Angela Bracht, 51, of Rockport, was arrested Monday after allegedly leading law enforcement on a slow-speed pursuit that ended in Nueces County, the Rockport Police Department posted on its Facebook page.
Rockport police officers responded at about 8:56 a.m. Monday to a convenience store following a report of an intoxicated woman attempting to purchase alcohol. The woman left the scene in a white Chevrolet Impala before officers arrived, the Facebook post stated.
Officers later located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop after observing a violation, but the driver refused to stop, prompting a pursuit that continued south through San Patricio County and onto the causeway into Nueces County.
A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper performed a PIT maneuver, safely disabling the vehicle at the North Beach exit ramp, the post stated. Because the maneuver occurred in Nueces County, outside Rockport police jurisdiction, DPS troopers took over the arrest.
A PIT or Pursuit Intervention Technique maneuver is a law enforcement tactic in which an officer uses their vehicle to make controlled contact with a fleeing car to force it to spin out and stop.
Bracht was taken into custody and charged with evading arrest or detention, resisting arrest, search or transport, and driving while intoxicated, the post stated.
Rockport officers assisted in transporting Bracht to Spohn Shoreline Hospital for a medical evaluation and a blood draw related to the DWI investigation. She was later booked into the Nueces County Jail.
