History

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – UT Tyler volleyball battled tightly with St. Mary’s on Tuesday night, but the Rattlers ultimately prevailed by a score of 3-0 in the midweek affair.
 
UT Tyler was competitive throughout, leading or tying St. Mary’s 23 times across the match and taking multiple late-set leads. The Patriots hit .181 as a team and produced 39 kills, but the Rattlers countered with a .260 hitting percentage and 49 kills on the night.
 
The opening set was a back-and-forth battle featuring seven ties and several momentum swings. UT Tyler erased an early deficit and surged ahead behind strong play from Kailey Manes and Audrey Brandon at the net, while Autumn Perry provided key kills from the outside. The Patriots fought off set point at 24-23 before St. Mary’s closed it out 26-24 with a late block. UT Tyler hit .163 in the frame but showed balance with six different players recording a kill.
 
The second set saw UT Tyler’s best rhythm of the night, jumping out to a 15-8 advantage fueled by Rivera’s sharp setting and timely swings from Perry and Manes. However, St. Mary’s stormed back with a late 6-1 run to even the score, eventually taking the set 28-26 despite the Patriots saving multiple set points.
 
In the third, the Patriots again battled to the wire. UT Tyler took a 20-18 lead late after kills from Perry and Lesley Sanchez, but the Rattlers responded with a 7-2 closing stretch to secure the sweep. St. Mary’s hit .306 in the final frame while limiting the Patriots to .194.
 
Perry led UT Tyler with 12 kills and eight digs, while Manes posted eight kills on .333 hitting and added four blocks. Rivera tallied 22 assists, and Arceneaux led all players with 15 digs.
 
The Patriots return home this weekend for two pivotal Lone Star Conference matches as they aim to climb the league standings. They will host Sul Ross State on Friday for Halloween Night inside the HPC at 6 p.m. They will follow that up with Western New Mexico on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
