As Buc Days festivities get underway, drivers in Corpus Christi should prepare for widespread road closures and parking restrictions expected to last for several weeks.
City officials say multiple downtown streets will be closed to traffic starting Saturday, April 25 through Tuesday, May 12 to accommodate the carnival and related events.
The closures include heavily traveled areas like Shoreline Boulevard, Resaca Street, Water Street, and Fitzgerald Street, along with portions of Hughes and Mesquite Streets. These changes are meant to create space for event setup, pedestrian safety, and increased foot traffic near the waterfront.
In addition to the long-term closures, even more restrictions will be in place for the Rally Night Parade on Saturday, April 25. From 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., major roads along the parade route—including Leopard Street, Schatzell Street, and Shoreline Boulevard—will be shut down completely.
Several nearby streets such as Up River Road, Palm Drive, and Buddy Lawrence Drive will also be closed during those hours to support parade operations and crowd control.
Officials are also reminding residents that parking and parade viewing will not be allowed on the Leopard Street bridge or along connecting side streets for safety reasons.
With increased traffic and limited access expected, drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and seek alternate routes whenever possible.
