The team announced Tuesday it had traded longtime quarterback Luis Perez to the St. Louis Battlehawks in exchange for offensive tackle Corey Stewart.
Perez had been with the Renegades since 2023, leading the team to a surprise XFL Championship in his first season and the leading the UFL in passing yards each of the last two seasons. Despite enough success to earn him the moniker “The Spring King,” Perez lost his starting job this offseason when Dallas’ new coach Rick Neuheisel opted to start Austin Reed at quarterback.
Reed solidified his place as the starter with 376 passing yards and three touchdowns in a blowout win over Houston in the first game of the season. Through four games, he has kept up that production and tallied 907 passing yards and 11 touchdowns with only two interceptions while Perez has yet to see the field.
Perez now fights for a starting job on a St. Louis team sitting just behind Dallas in the standings with a 2-2 record. The Battlehawks have had three quarterbacks take the field this season, led by former Troy QB Brandon Silvers.
