The Houston Immigration and Customs Enforcement Field Office has announced that in the two-week period between April 6th and 17th, 277 illegal aliens were arrested. This comes as city council has just voted to amend their HPD/ICE cooperation ordinance.
The controversial ordinance limited HPD cooperation with ICE and was immediately targeted by state officials like AG Ken Paxton, who launched an investigation into whether it violated state law.
Governor Abbott said it violated an agreement he had with the city and froze $110 million in public safety grant money.
That ordinance has now been amended to ensure the city is in compliance with state law and its agreements with the Governor’s Office. According to reporting from our TV partner Channel 2, the 277 illegal aliens arrested had a combined total of 751 separate criminal convictions and 654 separate illegal entries into the United States.
The convictions ranged from sex crimes to homicide, robbery, and drug trafficking. Fifteen different illegal aliens were identified as being members of or associated with various gangs, and two were wanted for murder in other countries.
