Funeral services announced for 17-year-old killed in shooting

Funeral services for Jacob “JJ” Serna are scheduled for Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Guardian Funeral Home.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Funeral services have been scheduled for a Corpus Christi teenager who was shot and killed earlier this month.

Jacob “JJ” Serna, 17, was killed April 15 outside a barbershop. Police say a suspect has since been arrested in connection with the case.

Visitation for Serna will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday and again on Thursday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Funeral services are set for Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Templo Jerusalem Cuadrangular Pentecostes Church on Coleman Avenue.

Family members say Serna was just weeks away from graduating high school and had been looking forward to his future.

Vivian Moreno, JJ’s aunt says he was excited about the future ahead of him. “His kindness, laughter, and warm spirit will never be forgotten. Though his time with us was far too short, the love he gave will remain in our hearts forever,” she said.

Loved ones continue to mourn his loss as the investigation into his death moves forward.
