HOUSTON — San Antonio restaurants shone brightly at 2025’s Texas Michelin Guide awards Tuesday night, earning more new stars than any other city in the state.

Mixtli — San Antonio’s acclaimed modern Mexican fine-dining destination in Southtown led by chefs Diego Galicia and Rico Torres — retained the one star it earned in 2024. Meanwhile, Isidore and Nicosi, both part of the Pullman Market collective founded by Emmer & Rye Hospitality, each secured their first.

Isidore, named for the patron saint of farmers, offers an elevated Texas steakhouse experience celebrating local producers and seasonal ingredients under chef de cuisine Ian Lanphear and Emmer & Rye corporate chefs Danny Parada and Jorge Hernandez. Nicosi, created by Esquire’s 2024 Pastry Chef of the Year Tavel Bristol-Joseph, has gained national attention for its artful, dessert-only tasting menu and intimate, no-phones-allowed setting.

Isidore also took home a Green Star, a Michelin recognition for restaurants that demonstrate outstanding commitment to sustainable practices.

Anonymous inspectors for France-based Michelin Guides award stars based on five key criteria: ingredient quality, mastery of flavor and technique, the chef’s personality as expressed through their cuisine, consistency across visits, and overall value for the dining experience.

Beyond the coveted stars, Michelin also announced new and returning Bib Gourmand winners, or restaurants serving exceptional food at accessible prices.

San Antonio spots Cullum’s Attaboy, Ladino, Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewery and The Jerk Shack all retained their Bib Gourmand designations, while Mezquite, another Pullman Market concept known for its Sonoran-inspired fare, earned its first. Seguin’s Burnt Bean Co. also was named a Bib Gourmand.

Although Michelin’s Recommended list wasn’t formally announced at the ceremony, several local restaurants were recognized in that category, which honors establishments delivering stellar dining experiences that fall just short of a star. Barbecue Station, Signature, Leche de Tigre, Garcia’s Mexican Food, 2M Smokehouse, and Signature Restaurant all retained their Michelin Recommended status, while newcomer Reese Bros. BBQ earned its first distinction.

No Texas restaurant has yet achieved two or three Michelin stars — but with San Antonio’s strong showing this year, that could change soon.
