They say to teach is to touch a life, and in the Coastal Bend, that impact was on full display as educators were honored for their dedication and excellence in the classroom.

The Corpus Christi Independent School District (CCISD) marked a major milestone this year, celebrating the 40th annual Teacher of the Year event in Corpus Christi on Tuesday. The celebration brought together teachers, administrators, and families to recognize those who go above and beyond to shape the future of local students.

This year’s top honors went to Denise Caldera of Galvan Elementary and Martha Buendia. Both educators were recognized for their commitment to student success, leadership in the classroom, and lasting influence on their campuses.

District leaders say the recognition is about more than just awards, it’s about highlighting the hard work and passion educators bring every single day. Roland Hernandez praised teachers across the district, emphasizing their dedication to not only educating students but also supporting families and strengthening the community as a whole.

The event, held at Veteran Memorial High School, welcomed family members and colleagues who gathered to celebrate the hornorees and all CCISD teachers. The milestone 40th celebration served as a reminder of the lasting impact educators have made over the years and continuing to make for generations to come.

As the night wrapped up, one message remained clear; behind every successful student is a teacher who made a difference.
