The Lady Bears capped off their first ever 10-0 run to a district championship. Now they look to continue that momentum in the postseason starting this week.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — One of the West Oso Lady Bears’ mottos this season has been “Prove Them Wrong” and so far, they’ve done just that.
The Bears went 10-0 in district for their first undefeated district title in program history following an 0-10 mark in 2025. The surge has been due in large part to new coach Alana Benitez, who graduated from Santa Gertrudis Academy. Benitez was used to making deep runs with the Lady Lions back in her playing days and is trying to prepare her team for the challenges they’re going to face next.

“Playoffs are a whole different vibe, a whole different energy,” Benitez said. “I’ve told them, ‘I’m not trying to scare y’all, but I’m just being realistic. It’s going to be a bigger environment, bigger crowd.'”
“This is a very exciting moment and it’s a good opportunity that we have right now,” said utility player Serenity Lopez.
#25 West Oso won’t get any breaks off the bat as they get set to face the Bishop Badgers in the bi-district round. The Badgers won the region last season and advanced to the state semifinal round.
