Shortly after he was drafted by the Cowboys, Caleb Downs got some advice from a former Dallas standout.
Downs made an appearance on Bleacher Report’s Thursday night draft coverage, where he spoke to Green Bay Packers pass rusher Micah Parsons. Downs and Parsons spoke about the North Texas area and how the safety can deal with the pressure of being a first-round pick.
Parsons told Downs that the pressure he’ll face as a rookie is a “privilege.”
“They’re not drafting you to be a player. They’re drafting you to be the player that you already are. To come in that system and dominate,” Parsons said. “You’re here to start and be the guy. You are the guy. Like I said earlier in the draft, you don’t wish upon a star. You land on it.”
Parsons and Downs also spoke about an interesting non-football topic: Food recommendations in North Texas. Parsons specifically told Downs to check out Al Biernat’s North in Dallas.
Parsons said the sides offered at Al Biernat’s North Dallas location are “immaculate.” Downs also got a recommendation from Giants receiver Malik Nabers, who led the draft show with Parsons.
Nabers told Downs to try the cinnamon waffles and chicken and waffles at Kitchen + Kocktails. Downs said he wasn’t worried about spending some money for a high-end breakfast.
“It is what it is. No state taxes, that’s the big part,” Downs said. “You gotta take out the family one time.”
