What a year it’s been on the water! The 2025 Race the River Paddling Race Series, hosted by the San Antonio River Authority, in partnership with the San Antonio River Foundation has taken participants across our beautiful river basin—testing skill, endurance, and teamwork along the way. With two races complete and one more to go, it’s time to look back on the journey so far and ahead to the exciting finale on the downtown River Walk.
Race the River: Mission Reach (April 12, 2025)
The first race of the season kicked off along the Mission Reach Paddling Trail, where calm stretches and lively rapids made for an exhilarating opener. From seasoned paddlers to first-time racers, participants enjoyed the challenge and the chance to experience one of the most scenic stretches of the San Antonio River.
Race the River: SASPAMCO (September 6, 2025)
After a summer break, the series resumed with a spirited race along the SASPAMCO Paddling Trail. Familiar faces returned, and new paddlers joined in, making this leg one of the most dynamic yet. The sense of community on and off the water reflected the River Authority’s mission to inspire appreciation and stewardship of our shared waterways.
Now, all eyes are on the grand finale—the Downtown River Walk Race, happening Friday, November 7, 2025 from 7 to 10 pm!
This nighttime race will bring the paddling excitement to the heart of San Antonio. Racers will glide beneath the River Walk’s iconic bridges and twinkling lights, surrounded by cheering crowds and the buzz of downtown energy. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience that captures the spirit of our city and our river community. Thank you to our partners at the San Antonio River Foundation City of San Antonio, Go Rio, and Visit San Antonio for making this race possible!
Come watch the action along the downtown River Walk loop—dine, stroll, and enjoy a scene that makes for a truly memorable evening. This is a rare chance to see this annual River Walk event—after hours, with city lights reflecting all around. While all paddler spots are full, there’s still plenty of excitement for spectators: adrenaline, incredible views, and unforgettable moments!
