Medical examiner identifies man shot outside South Staples smoke shop

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Nueces County Medical Examiner identified the man killed on Thursday as 31-year-old Anthony Rodriguez. 

Corpus Christi police also arrested 19-year-old Sebastian Carrillo Sosa in connection with the shooting on South Staples Street that left Rodriguez dead.

Police said the shooting happened just after 5:30 p.m. in the 5400 block of South Staples Street, outside a smoke shop and nearby food truck. They said Rodriguez was shot, taken to a hospital, and later died.

Investigators said a possible robbery may have led to the shooting. Several people were detained and later interviewed as detectives gathered information.

Carrillo Sosa was charged with murder and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
