Texas Tech had one of the nation’s top collegiate defenses in 2025. On Friday, another one of its playmakers was drafted.

Edge rusher Romello Height was selected by the San Francisco 49ers with the 70th overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft. Height was the second Texas Tech pass rusher to be drafted this year after the New York Jets took David Bailey No. 2 overall in the first round.

Height was a pivotal part of the Red Raiders’ success last season as he finished the campaign with 38 total tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks. He played just one season in Lubbock after separate stints at Georgia Tech, USC and Auburn. He was part of Tech’s record-setting transfer class that led the program to a Big 12 championship.

Height (6-3, 240 pounds) was a First Team All-Big 12 selection in 2025. After his time at Tech ended, he competed with some of the draft’s top prospects at the Senior Bowl.
