Hot bats in the top of the seventh inning helped lift Hillcrest to a 5-2 win over Molina on Friday night.
After ending the sixth inning tied 2-2, Ethan Pacheco’s RBI single and Diego Wong’s RBI double put Hillcrest up two runs. Wong later scored on a wild pitch to seal the win and complete a sweep of Molina, which Hillcrest dominated 11-1 on Thursday night.
Jayden Pescador struck out eight batters in six innings on the mound Friday, giving up one hit and two runs (zero earned). Jean Pierre Paternina went out on a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning, putting Hillcrest on the board first.
Friday’s win improved Hillcrest, ranked ninth in The Dallas Morning News’ Class 5A poll, to 26–3 on the season and 12–0 in District 13-5A.Â
Spotlight on
Highland Park routed Frisco Lone Star 8-0 on Friday night, scoring five runs in the second inning.
Henry Gahagan gave up just two hits in seven innings and struck out 10. Gahagan also hit an RBI single in the bottom of the second inning. Martin True’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning opened the game’s scoring and Isaac Hutchinson recorded a team-high two RBIs.
Highland Park improved to 18–5 with the win, completing a sweep of Lone Star. On Tuesday, Highland Park shutout Lone Star 2-0.

Nomar Torres, Grapevine: He had 5 RBIs on three hits in a 13-0 win over Fort Worth Arlington Heights.
Luke Reeves, Waxahachie: Reeves gave up just five hits in a 9-0 win over Mesquite. He spent all seven innings on the mound, striking out five and walking none.
Casey McGinnis, Hebron: He walked it off, hitting a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to give Hebron a 3-2 victory over Flower Mound.
Dawson Stokan, Frisco Panther Creek: Stokan pitched a perfect game in Panther Creek’s 3-0 win over Prosper Richland. In seven innings on the mound, he gave up no hits and struck out 17 batters.
