SAN ANTONIO — Police are searching for a man armed with a “rusty machete” following a reported attack Friday afternoon at about 2:10 p.m. at a Shell station on the Northwest Side near Interstate 10 and Vance Jackson Road.

Police tell us say the suspect used a handleless machete and that the victim was walking under the bridge when a homeless man struck him in the head for no reason.

A man who witnessed the attack said the victim was “walking on the sidewalk nearby when a homeless black male, medium build, came up, confronted him, and then hit him in the face with the machete – and took off,” said Sergeant Mario Montoya from the San Antonio Police Department.

The victim, who suffered a two-inch gash on his forehead, fled to a nearby Shell station for help, while the suspect was last seen fleeing north on Vance Jackson Road.

Officers recovered the weapon near a Bill Miller BBQ on the opposite side of the highway and described it as a rusty machete .

The suspect is described as a Black male with a medium build, wearing an aqua blue shirt and blue jeans.

The victim was transported to University Hospital in stable condition.
