After a sunny Friday with parts of North Texas under a tornado watch, the region is headed into the weekend with a chance of severe weather.
Several North Texas counties, including Dallas, Collin, Denton, Grayson and Tarrant, have been placed under a tornado watch, which will be in effect until 11 p.m., according to the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office.
Saturday started partly sunny, and parts of Dallas-Fort Worth will see a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 p.m., according to the weather service’s forecast. Day temperatures are expected to top out near 92 degrees before plunging to 68 degrees at night.
The weather service forecasts the possibility of severe weather in parts of North Texas, with the highest chance of storms in areas along and north of Interstate 20.
“Very large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes will all be possible,” the forecast said.
There were reports of 2 to 3-inch hail in parts of north and northeast Texas in Van Zandt and Rains counties late Friday and early Saturday. Some wind damage was also reported in Van Zandt County in the early hours of Saturday.
The chance of showers and thunderstorms will continue through the evening until 10 p.m.
The upcoming few days are forecast to be mostly sunny and clear, but the chance of severe weather will linger. There is a 10 to 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms almost every day for the coming week.
