FRISCO — Anthony Smith, a wide receiver from East Carolina, was the final pick of the day for the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL draft.

Smith (6-2, 197 pounds) was selected in the seventh round, No. 218 overall.

Smith, 24, spent six years in college, four at NC State before transferring to East Carolina.

His best season at East Carolina was in 2025 when he caught 64 passes for 1,053 yards with seven touchdowns. In the last two seasons, he had 13 touchdowns and nine drops at East Carolina.

Smith was a first-team All-AAC selection for his efforts in 2025 as he averaged 16.5 yards per catch.

He most likely will get some looks on special teams, considering late round picks normally play those roles with NFL teams.

With the draft ending, the Cowboys selected two offensive players in Penn State tackle Drew Shelton and Smith. Overall, it’s been a defensive heavy draft, starting with the first day when Dallas picked safety Caleb Downs at No. 11 overall and Malachi Lawrence at No. 23 overall. On Saturday, the Cowboys also added Florida’s Devin Moore and Alabama’s LT Overton.
