In news that should surprise no one, El Paso has been deemed the spookiest city in the country thanks to our high amount of ghost sightings. Whether you believe in ghosts or not, you have to admit that El Paso has a rich history, and, in turn, a rich haunted history. El Paso isn’t the only one; Texas dominates the list of paranormal hotspots. From Austin’s haunted hotels to Corpus Christi’s ghostly sailors, the Lone Star State knows how to keep the supernatural busy. But El Paso didn’t just make the list, we owned it.

Texas Roots: Everything’s Bigger, Even the Hauntings

Vivint’s analysis looked at over 100 cities using data from haunted places, search trends, and even spiritual shop density. While Los Angeles had the most haunted places overall, El Paso topped the charts for ghost sightings per capita.

The Ghosts of El Paso

El Paso’s haunted reputation has deep roots; Concordia Cemetery, the DeSoto Hotel, El Paso High, the Plaza Theatre, and L&J Café all have stories that locals love to whisper about. It’s like every old building has a backstory… and every backstory has a few lingering guests who never checked out.

The study also found that searches for “ghost tours near me” are up 128% nationwide, proving that haunted tourism is having a moment, and El Paso is perfectly positioned for it. Between ghost walks, haunted bar crawls, and spine-tingling local legends, the Borderland’s supernatural scene is thriving.
