DENTON – Despite holding a three-run lead entering the sixth inning, Mean Green softball fell 6-4 to Wichita State at Lovelace Stadium on Saturday.
 
UNT (27-23, 14-9) built its lead with a pair of two-run innings in the second and third frames before the Shockers (31-15, 17-6) responded with four runs in the sixth and an additional run in the seventh.
 
Britney Lewinski (L, 14-11) was tagged with the decision after she held Wichita State to two hits, three walks and one run with six strikeouts prior to the sixth inning. Kayleigh Smith entered in relief for the second-consecutive day as she threw 1 2/3 innings and gave up one run on two hits and no walks with one strikeout.
 
In her first career start as the leadoff hitter, freshman Kaycee Slovak tallied her second two-hit game of the weekend as she gave UNT a 2-1 lead with an RBI double in the second inning.
 
Sophomore Ariah Mitchell collected her 12th multi-hit game of the season as she scored the first run of the game for the Mean Green in the second before she dropped an RBI single in the third.
 
North Texas closes the home schedule against Wichita State on Sunday at noon with streaming coverage on ESPN+. Lewinski, Smith and Riley McNemar will be recognized in a postgame Senior Day ceremony. Standing room only tickets for Sunday will be available at the Lovelace Stadium ticket office.
