EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — Destination El Paso hosted its first Provecho Amigos on Saturday, April 25, at the El Paso Convention Center.
The event brought together chefs, bartenders and other creative talent that shape the city’s food culture.
Guests were able to try flavors put together by top chefs, allowing them to experience the best of El Paso’s food scene.
A portion of the proceeds that were raised will also support scholarships for local students who hope to pursue careers in the culinary arts and hospitality.
Director of Food and Beverage for Destination El Paso, Christopher Pugas, said the culinary event was created to help build community enhancement with the culinary industry.
“We really wanted to push community involvement and show the community we’re here to support them,” Pugas said.
Guests needed to purchase a ticket to attend the event. Once inside, they were able to sample anything from the 19 culinary booths and 21 beverage booths as many times as they wanted.
“It was an actual event where you come in, and you get to sample all the items,” Puga said. “The intent is to get these people to sample, love something, and want to come back and return to the restaurant and really invest back into those businesses.”
With the goal of benefiting the city’s food businesses, Provecho Amigos was able to provide exposure for the El Paso culinary culture.
“It’s our first one, and the turnout has been incredible,” Puga said. “We thank the community for coming to support, we can’t wait for next year to show off what we are going to do next.”
Puga shared his excitement to double next year’s vendors and continue to promote the city’s cuisine.
